- Highly Reactive: Alkali metals are very reactive, especially with water. They react explosively with cold water to produce an alkaline solution and hydrogen gas. This is why they are called “alkali” metals.
- Reactivity with Halogens: Alkali metals also react with halogens to produce halide salts. For example, sodium reacts with chlorine to produce sodium chloride, commonly known as table salt.

The density of alkali metals, which is calculated as mass divided by volume, increases as we go down the group. This is because the number of shells and protons in an atom increases, leading to an increase in mass.
